Comments

The Southold, NY Town Records show Thomas Osman-14629 had a son Thomas born 25 Feb 1654. The town records also show a death record for a Thomas Osman who died 16 Nov 1661. From the death record alone, it is not clear whether this record is for Thomas Osman-14629(Sr.) or his son Thomas(Jr.). Deed records however, also contained with the Southold town records, show that the 1661 death record must be for Thomas Osman(Jr.) -- in 1683 Thomas Osman sold 10 acres of land to "my eldest son John Ozman", a parcel on which the son John had already built a house(printed Southold Town Records, vol. I, page 430). Thomas Osman(Jr.) would have been about 27 years old and certainly would not have had a son John old enough to have built his own house. The deed also shows that Thomas Osman(Jr.) died prior to 1683 as John Osman (born in 1656) was by then Thomas Osman(Sr.)'s eldest son. So there is no doubt that the death record for a Thomas Osman on 16 Nov 1661 pertains to Thomas Osman(Jr.).

Thomas Osman-14629's death is established to be between 7 Nov 1687 and 9 Mar 1688/9 -- on 9 Mar 1688/9 Mary Mapes and William Wells deeded a tract of land to Thomas Osman-14629 deceased (printed Southold Town Records, Vo. II, page 273). The deed mentions that the land was land that Thomas Osman-14629 had already purchased from Mary Mapes and William Wells. The deed also mentions Thomas Osman-14629's will which was dated 7 Nov 1687. Unfortunately, Thomas Osman-14629's will does not seem to have been recorded.
