John Osman-14632's father Thomas had sons Thomas(Jr.), John, William, Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, and Isaac. One of these would have been the husband of the "Mary Ozmond widdow" of the 1698 census. Thomas(Jr.) died in 1661. William does not appear in any Southold, NY records, except for his birth record. The 1683 rate lists of Southold, NY show 4 males and 3 females living with Thomas Osman-14629. These would have been Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, and Isaac -- probably William died prior to 1683. Abraham, Jacob, and Isaac are listed in the 1698 Southold, NY census with their own families. Joseph would have been 29 at the time of the 1698 census. It is conceivable that Joseph could have had a family of five children and then have died prior to the 1698 census, but this is at the edge of possibility. Considering that Joseph does not appear in Southold, NY records after 1687, it appears especially unlikely. John Osman-14632 on the other hand already likely had a family of three daughters by 1686 as shown by the rate list of 1686. Further, John was alive until at least 1697 and by 1699 was deceased, shown by deeds in the Southold, NY town records -- so John Osman-14632 is the perfect candidate to be the deceased husband of "Mary Ozmond widdow" of the 1698 Southold, NY census.
