Comments

The "first" given name for John Osborn-7792's 2nd child is definitely "Major" and not "Abner". In the listing of John Osborn-7792's children in the Waterbury town vital records book, "Major" was inserted in after the rest of the name had been written and is overlapped and obscured in the middle by the tail of the "J" in the name above. The first letter "M" in the name is also obscured -- it is still possible to tell it is the letter "M", but it is also possible to see how the "M" can be mis-read as the letter "A". So it is easy to see how Joseph Anderson in his history The Town and City of Waterbury ... read Major Erastus' name as "Abner Erastus". This error was then probably picked up by Donald L. Jacobus in his genealogy of New Haven families.
