Activity of the Confederates in Owen, Gallatin, Carroll and Henry Counties.
        Cincinnati Enquirer, OH Ed., 9/3/1864

--Reliable information was received in Covington yesterday morning stating that
the Confederates under Colonel Jesse and others, have almost complete control
in Owen, Gallatin, Carroll and Henry counties and that they are recruiting with
a rush.  The Provost Marshal of Gallatin county, and a number of citizens of
Gallatin and Owen counties reached here yesterday, deeming it unsafe to remain
at their homes, nearly all the Federal forces having been withdrawn from that
section.

   Mrs. Louisiana Howard died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.E. Osborne,
January 3, 1926, at the age of 85 years.  The date of her death being her
birthday.  Mrs. Howard was ill but a few days, having been stricken with
pneumonia on Wednesday and her death came as a shock to her many friends and
relatives.  The funeral services were held at the Christian Church on Monday
afternoon by Rev. McWhirter.  Six of her grandsons acting as pallbearers.  A
large crowd was in attendence.  Those from a distance ere<sic> Mrs. Lena Neal
and two daughters and one son from Ohio;  Mr. Mrs.<sic> E.G. Houward(sic?) of
Marengo, Ill;  Mrs. Wm. Howard and two sons and two daughters from Cincinnati;
Mr. Mrs. Green Osborne and son from Covington.
   Mrs. Howard leaves three children to mourn her departure, Mrs. R.E. Osborne
with whom she had made her home for many years, Mrs. Lena Neal of Ohio, Elzie
Howard of Marengo, Ill; four sisters, Mrs. Addie Landrum, Mrs. Susie Bates,
Mrs. Harriett Snell of Keefer and Mrs. Lila Mason of Cross Roads.  All her
children and three sisters were with her when the end came.
