to Lincoln Co., NC
NC General Assembly Session Records, Oct-Nov 1779,
Box 1, Oct-Nov 1779, Joint Papers, Petitions to Gen. Assembly,
Oct. 19, 1779; Photocopy from the NC State Archives.
S: Oct 19, 1779
To the honourable the Speaker of the Senate
The honourable the Speaker of the Commone
and the General Assembly, of the State of North Carolina
A Petition
The petition of your petitioners, Inhabitants of the County
of Burke
Humbly Sheweth
That whereas the Great Distance of the Court-house of sd
County of Burke, Renders it very inconvenient for us to
attend sd Court, that the Adjacent County of Lincoln, would
be much More Convenient, AGreeable and Satisfactory, to the
Inhabitants. We your petitioners therefore most humbly
Request that your honours May take the Premesiers into Your
wise Consideration and add a Certain Part of the sd County
of Burke to the sd County of Lincoln, Viz. BEGINNING at the
three Notched Island, on Cautaba River, thence to George
Sealy's on the South fork and thence to the Dividing line,
between the County of Rutherford and the County of Lincoln
aforesaid.
And Your petitioners, as in Duty
bound, Shall ever Pray.
