Greetings. My name is Calude E. Wells. Several other descendants of Zachariah WELLS and I are on a quest to find info on our ancestor. I am trying to find some one in the OSBORNE family who may have some documented evidence of Zachariah WELLS's marriage to either Abigail or Elizabeth OSBORNE. What is known is the marriage occured abt. 1770 in either Orange County or Grayson region of VA or NC. Some research has him married to Elizabeth and others have Abigail. The confusion continues with her parents, some say her father was a Jonathan OSBORN(E), a few are saying her parents were James OSBORN(E)/Mary WHITTAKER, and others have her parents as Caleb OOSBORN(E) and Hannah HOWARD. Some of these match ups can be eliminated because of dates. I believe James and Mary OSBORNE were married at abt the same time or after Zachariah and his bride Osborne. Jonathan OSBORNE's will mentions Elizabeth but not as a WELLS like he does his other daughters married names. Caleb OSBORNE/Hannah HOWARD are the most likely, but would need evidence of some kind. Zachariah and and his lovely Abigail/Elizabeth OSBORNE lived for a time (at least around 1787 when he bought land) in the Wilkes County, NC region of the New River Valley. They then relocated to the Powell Valley region of VA and settled near what is now Big Stone Gap, Wise County, VA. Any assistance would be appreciated All previous research has been placed in limbo because of these questions about facts that were previously accepted as being true. If we can identify his spouse that would be one less problem in solving the mystery of Zachariah WELLS and his bride Abigail/Elizabeth OSBORNE. You can email me on cwells4944@aol.com.

Believe my ancestor was one Osborn JEFFRIES, who first appears in Madison Co., KY on 1808 tax list & apparently died that year or moved away. Believe it or not, I have documented at least ten different Osborne Jeffries! The earliest of these was a very wealthy individual, born ca 1715 in James City Co., VA(?), son of Simon JEFFRIES and Elizabeth(unknown). He had no nephews but three continuous generations after him used the given name Osborne.

Reportedly, the colonial governor of Virginia, Herbert JEFFRIES/JEFFREYS in the 17th century had wife Susannah OSBORNE. This has been called into question, but obviously there must be some kind of Osborne and Jeffries connection out there that predates 1715, when the oldest OJ was born. He died in 1793 Franklin Co., NC.

Does anyone have any Osborne information that shows any relationship whatsoever to any Jeffries in the 17th & 18th centuries?
