Commentary on Elijah Osborn, Sr. and his family

I have based the family of Elijah Osborn principally on the guardianship
papers of Elijah Osborn, Sr.'s granddaughter Emily Annette Osborn.
Emily Annette's guardianship papers provide information on a partition of
Elijah Osborn, Sr.'s land made in 1872 giving names of Elijah Osborn, Sr.'s
living heirs.  The heirs mentioned, besides Emily Annette Osborn, are

Almadona N. Ickes
Julia Zedaker
David Osborn
Emeline Hardy
Sylvester Osborn
Susan Miller
Catharine Osborn

Marriage records from Defiance and Trumbull Cos., OH shows the additional
information:

Jane Osborn married Emanual Hull on 19 Feb 1852 in Defiance Co., OH.
Almira Osborn married Edward Robinson on 1 Nov 1857 in Defiance Co., OH.
        Almira Osborn later married Curtis Morse.  This is shown by
        information in the marriage record of her son Sylvester G. Morse.
Julia Ann Osborn married George Zedikar on 21 Feb 1837 in Trumbull Co., OH.
        George and Julia A. Zedecer are found in the 1850 census living
        in Mahoning Co., OH. [Mahoning Co. was created in 1846 from a part
        of Trumbull Co.]

Living immediately next door to George and Julia A. Zedecer in the 1850
        census was the family of
Jonathan F. and Mary Ickus who had children
        Elmedorus U.(shown as male), age 5; Flora J., age 3; and David M.,
                age 1 month.
        In the 1860 census, Jonathan Ickis and his family are living in
        Union Co., IA.  Jonathan Ickis married on 10 Apr 1859 in Union Co.,
        IA to Marion Ramsey.  His family as shown in the 1860 census is
        Jonathan, age 36
        Mariane, age 19
        E.V., age 15 (female!)
        Flora J., age 12
        David M., age 10
        Effir D., age 2 months
As there are no children in age listed between David M. and Effir D.,
it is mostly likely that Jonathan Ickis' first wife Mary died within a
few years of the 1850 census.

Flora Ickis married on 24 Jun 1886 in Union Co., IA to J.M. Mehan.  Her
        marriage record gives her mother's name as Mary Osborn.
Given that
1) Jonathan F. and Mary Ickis' daughter Elmadora shows up in the list of
        Elijah Osborn, Sr.'s heirs   and
2) Jonathan F. and Mary Ickis' daughter Flora identifies Mary as
        "Mary Osborn",
the logical conclusion is that Elijah Osborn, Sr.'s daughter Mary
is the daughter who married Jonathan F. Ickis.  There is no evidence that
I am aware of that Mary was known as "Adaline" or that Mary had middle
initial "E." as given by some people in their family tree.

Regarding Elijah Osborn, Sr.'s daughter Emeline:
Elijah Osborn, Sr. did have a daughter Emeline (born about 1855) with his
        second wife Catherine (Hauser) Baker.  Emeline married Andrew
        Hardy.
There was another Emeline Osborn in Defiance Co., OH -- this Emeline
Osborn married on 4 Oct 1849 in Defiance Co., OH to Zachary Coffman.  I
have tried without success to find additional information on this Emeline
Osborn in census records and elsewhere.  My guess is that this other
Emeline Osborn was also Elijah Osborn, Sr.'s daughter! -- but that she
died before 1855, and then when Elijah Osborn, Sr. had a daughter with
his second wife Catherine, the new daughter was given the deceased
daughter's name.
