Joseph Casey Rev. War Pension Papers

        Nat. Arch. Film, Pens. S15364

ca1763          Born in MD, county unknown.

1781            In the summer of 1781, entered the service of the U.S. in his
                18th year of age for the term of 3 months.  Served under Capt.
                Walls.  At the time of enlistment was a resident of Alleghany
                Co., PA not far from Pittsburg.

1781/1782       Another tour of 3 months in the winter of 1781 and 1782, but
                cannot recall the officers served under.

                Served a third tour of duty, rendevoused at Mingo bottom, above
                Pittsburg.  Marched through the now state of Ohio to the
                Sandusky Plains.  There defeated by the Indians.  The general,
                Col. Crawford, taken prisoner and burned by the Indians.
                David Williamson was Col., Craig Richey was his Capt. and he
                was taken in the battle.

                After the Rev. moved to TN and lived there 4 or 5 years.
                Commanded a company there as Capt. against the Creek Indians.

                Came to the state of KY from TN.

11 March 1834   Res. of Campbell Co., KY, applied for pension.  Richard Tarvin,
                and James Baker, residents of Campbell Co., KY made affidavit
                that they were well acquainted with Joseph Casey for 20 years.
                Joseph Casey was 71 years old.  Had been a resident of KY for
                more than 25 years.


Archibald Casey Rev. War Pension Papers

        Nat. Arch. Film, Pens. W9381

22 Jan 1776     Enlisted for service in Dover, DE for one year in Capt. Nathan
                Adams Co. of Infantry, Col. Hasletts Reg., DE Line on
                Continental establishment.  Served beyond the term for which
                enlisted for some time.  Was in the Battle of Long Island and
                White Plains.  Assisted in taking the Hessians at Trenton and
                in guarding them to Philadelphia.  Not long afterwards was
                discharged at Philadelphia.

                Enlisted as Archibald "Kersey".

23 Jan 1800     Married to Hannah in Harrison Co., KY.

6 July 1818     Archibald Casey appeared before the Harrison Co., KY Circuit
                Court applying for pension.

23 June 1820    Age, about 66 years, a resident of Harrison Co., gave statement
                concerning service to the Harrison Co., KY Circuit Court.
                Occupation is that of a Post and Rasler.  Family is wife and
                dau. about 12 years old.

22 Apr 1825     Archibald Casey died.

8 Dec 1853      Affidavit by John Hamilton, age 86, that he knew Archibald
                Casey from 1796 to Archibald Casey's death in 1825.  Archibald
                and Hannah and a family of children resided in Cynthiana,
                Harrison Co.  [The signature for this John Hamilton appears
                similar to the John Harrsion who was bondsman for the marriage
                of Thomas Vanlandingham to Mary Hamilton in 1820 in Harrison
                Co.]

9 Dec 1853      Hannah Casey, age between 80 and 90, applied for widow's
                pension.  States that she was married to Archibald Casey many
                years prior to 1800 in Alleghany Co., MD.  Statement later
                corrected to state that she had lived with Archibald Casey
                for many years prior to their formal marriage in Harrison
                Co., KY.


Information on William Casey of

Green Co., KY

     Col. William Casey was a native of Frederick Co., VA.  He moved to KY in
the winter of 1779-80 and lived in a camp on the Hanging fork of Dick's river.
He remained there until 1791, then moved to Russell's creek, a tributary of
Green river.
     In a deposition given on June 3, 1816, a short time before he died that
same year, he stated that he was in his 60th year.  In 1782 William Casey was
marr. to Jane Montgomery, a sister of Benjamin Logan's wife, Ann.  Jane was
the dau. of William Montgomery, woho had been killed by Indians in the attack
on Montgomery's Station on Feb. 27, 1781.
     William Casey had as heirs wife Jane(Jenny), son Green, dau. Peggy(Patsy)
Lampton, dau. Jenny(Jane) Paxton, dau. Polly(Molly) Creel, and dau. Anne marr.
John Montgomery.  Had grandson William Casey Paxton.  Additional heir John M.
Clements and Jane his wife.
