Death Records

Kentucky Death Index 1911-1993

The State of Kentucky has placed their death records index on-line. I have extracted the surname Osborne (and related spellings) from this index to aid in researching the Osbornes of Kentucky. Over 2,300 Osbornes appear in the index.

Though the index begins in 1911, remember that many of these people were born in the 1800s. The average year of birth in this index is 1893. The oldest birth year is 1816. I have completed calculations for each record to estimate the birth year (year of death - age at death).

The searches were conducted by using a wild card for . . . osb*, orsb*, ausb*. Where the search exceeded the maximum 35 returns, each letter of the first name was searched. Place of death was used as the search key.

This index is by no means complete or 100% accurate. I suggest you check the index yourself (see genealogy links page) if you do not find what you are looking for here. However, I suspect this index is 90% accurate, or better.

Kentucky Death Record Extracts (selected records)

These are extracts of death records requested from state vital records. Such requests can be costly ($1-$14) and take up to several months to receive. If you see information of interest here, send me an e-mail and I will provide direction on how to get a copy to you at little or no charge. I will be including these records in the above index, in future versions.

Ohio Death Index Early 1900s

The Ohio Historical Society has placed a portion their death records index on-line. I have extracted the surname Osborne (and related spellings) from this index to aid in researching the Osbornes of Ohio. Over 200 Osbornes appear in the index.

The index covers 1913-1927 and 1933-1937. The index was created using optical recognition software, saving years worth of manual data entry, but can lead to the computer miss interpeting letters. Use caution when searching, keywords may be mispelled. The only data I have modified from the actual database is the county name.

The searches were conducted by using a wild card for . . . osb*, orsb*, ausb*. "All Counties" was used as the search key.

This index is by no means complete or 100% accurate. I suggest you check the index yourself (see genealogy links page) if you do not find what you are looking for here. However, I suspect this index is 90% accurate, or better.
